Communication for Leaders and Teams

Say the Real Thing — voice, listening and trust for leaders and teams.

Your team isn’t short of meetings. It’s short of moments where someone says the real thing.

Leaders speak and listen all day. Almost none have been trained in either. This is hands-on work with your actual voice — you’ll find range you didn’t know you had, practise listening in a way that changes what people tell you, and rehearse the conversation you’ve been putting off.

Nobody is going to make you sing. Some groups end up doing it anyway.

Three things worth knowing

  • Teams don’t fail from too little talk. They fail because nobody said the real thing.
  • Manager engagement fell from 31% to 22% in three years, and roughly half of managers have never had formal training in the job. (Gallup, State of the Global Workplace 2026)
  • We choose leaders by the sound of their voice, and the research says that judgment doesn’t predict who’s actually any good at it.

The Five Elements

The work runs on five vocal qualities — earth, fire, water, metal and air. Most people live in one or two, and the missing ones are where the misunderstandings happen. Barbara McAfee’s framework, delivered by a certified trainer.

Formats

  • Two hours — Up to 24 people. Leadership team, offsite block, or conference session.
  • Full day — Up to 20 people. The full arc, including a private before-and-after recording.
  • Keynote and workshop — Talk for the whole organisation, working session for the leaders.

Your team leaves with three specific changes to how they communicate, written down with names and dates on them.

Book a 20-minute call. Tell me who the group is and what isn’t being said. If it’s not a fit I’ll say so, and I usually know someone who is. singforjoy135@gmail.com
